Hey! We’re Andy and Michael and we are coaches with over 35 years of combined experience, licensed in CrossFit and functional training, and we’re both devoted husbands and fathers. And we're the founders and creators of The Whole Life Challenge.

It is our mission to help busy adults who haven’t found anything that works for them finally achieve a balance between health and fitness and the well-being of a fulfilling personal life. 

Which is why we developed the 6 Week Whole Life Challenge for men and women with careers and families who are struggling to be healthy and enjoy life at the same time.

You might look at us and think, how can these two guys who look like they have pretty great lives understand my challenges? 
It’s not as obvious because you can’t immediately see our struggles in the form of weight etc. but we both overcame extreme personal challenges and come to discover that ours are UNIVERSAL HUMAN STRUGGLES to become less miserable while staying healthy and whatever your personal struggle is, we’re all ultimately in the same boat. 

ALL of the tools we created for the Whole Life Challenge came directly out of what we each learned through wrestling through our individual challenges and working with over 10,000 clients just like you directly. We combined everything we each learned on our own journey toward a sane version of adulthood - and we continue to add to this toolset as we keep learning. 

We have what we’ve learned developed into a powerful program ANY person in the world - no matter the nature of your challenge - can use right now, today, to kick-start improving your health and your well-being.

The truth is, we ALL have some core emotional issue that plagues us. It just so happened in our case our completely OPPOSITE challenges required the exact SAME solutions.

Andy Petranek's Story
(The Overachiever)
Everything I ever tried, I had to be the best. I had to win. 

If you read my bio, you’d see someone with a lot of extraordinary accomplishments in the world of fitness. 

What you wouldn’t see is that all of it was motivated by a secret: It was all motivated by me belief deep down that I was not good enough. 

What propelled me to all that success was the belief that I would never be able to prove I mattered unless I proved it with a series of accomplishments that people could see:

Trophies won. Titles achieved. Records broken. 

From the outside you would think my life was very successful. But inside I was on a never ending treadmill chasing the one accomplishment that would make me feel like I measured up.

It took me many years to realize that I would never get there.

I couldn’t change an internal problem with an external solution - at least not this solution of chasing accomplishments like a drug addict chases a hit. 

Fitness can be an addiction. For me it was. It was no different than someone who is addicted to sugar or alcohol or gambling - except that my physique gave the illusion that I didn’t have a problem.

Some addictions show and some don’t. But at the bottom, it’s all the same compulsion: our emotions using us, whispering in our ear to grab a cookie or take a hit of heroin…

Or go to the gym.
Just like any other addict, I was using fitness to help me solve my internal despair. 

Finally, I realized my error: All the time I had I been pursuing fitness I was ignoring what was much more important: health, peace of mind and longevity. 

I needed a detox.

In order to actually make a healthier choice for myself, I had to learn to process my emotions so they had somewhere to go besides fueling compulsive behavior.

I know you can relate to this because we all have SOMETHING that is our comfort when life gets uncomfortable.  

But if we don’t take care of ourselves in a wholistic way (mind, body, soul) those suppressed negative emotions come out and we end up hurting ourselves and other people.

But it takes a system of tools and it requires a support system from people who are rooting for you. As I was figuring this out, I realized a colleague was working on a similar project in his own life that perfectly complimented mine: Michael.
Michael Stanwyck's Story
(The Underbeliever)
Everything I ever tried, I secretly knew I would fail at it. Every time I started something, I quit.

I pursued acting. I quit.

I got a culinary degree and started a career as a chef. I quit. 

 I smoked weed. I drank. I was waiting for death. 

Fitness was the one constructive habit in my life. I got heavy into it for years and that was at least one positive thing.

Then a shoulder injury forced me into a 6 month recovery period post-surgery. I couldn’t wait to train as hard as I used to again. Finally, when I was fully recovered, I was like, great! Let me get back to where I was fitness-wise...
 

Then…

 It occurred to me: Why? 

I mean, what do really you have when you reach the top of the fitness-perfection mountain? 

Nothing that matters.

That’s when I decided to stop being so goal-driven. I took developmental programs that taught me how to shift my perspectives about my beliefs in myself and what was important in life.

I started chunking down goals to manageable pieces and focusing on small progressions I could see instead of far-off goals.

Then I started thinking, “Where can I spend all this capital I’ve been spending on working out and obsessing about a perfect diet somewhere else in my life that’s more rewarding?

Andy and I combined what we had each learned about finding balance between fitness and overall well-being and turning it into a game we called The Whole Life Challenge.

We continue to add more of what we learn about our own development to the game as we go through life and grow and change - and it is extremely rewarding.

 My philosophy now is, “Don’t go crazy about this or that diet or this or that extreme fitness goal; stay loose and focus on taking care of what is truly important: my wife and kid. "

The ugly secret of fitness-fetishism is that the more you buy into climbing the “fitness-superstar mountain”, the more frantically you’re actually trying to cover up something else that you don’t want to feel. It’s all a way to make yourself temporarily comfortable so we don’t have to face what’s uncomfortable. 

I know because I did this exact thing for years.. Andy did it. You’ve done it. We’ve all done it. 

There is something inside each and every one of us that, on some level, believes we are “unworthy”. But there is a way out of the downward spiral of “emotional avoidance” which leads nowhere.

WHY WE INVENTED THE WHOLE LIFE CHALLENGE
Our biggest frustration as coaches was that our clients were so motivated when they were at the gym, but whenever they weren’t at the gym it seemed like everything we taught them went right out the window.

No matter how motivated the client, it was a cycle of progress, regression, progress, regression...

This really bothered us. 

We needed a way to help training clients continue to do the things that got them results when they were outside of the gym them they got inside the gym.

All knew was we needed to create a set of tools that could be used by anyone to support their goals while they were outside the gym, without their trainer and in tempting self-sabotage-encouraging environments like the couch or a party full of junk food.

We didn’t have a master plan when we created The Whole Life Challenge.. It stemmed purely out of our desire to do something that makes sense to serve everyday people.
